The Founder of Chemistry

The Founder of ChemistryIt is widely believed that the invention of Chemistry was carried out by the founder of Chemistry, an Italian named Medici. In the early 15th century a number of individuals were practicing an ancient form of alchemy in Italy called 'the art of transmutation' in which alchemical artifacts such as chemicals and pearls were used. From that time onwards, the founder of Chemistry had a major impact on many aspects of science and chemistry, including his coining of the term 'Chemistry' and the naming of many of the main chemical elements. When Medici wrote, he was a citizen of Florence. He was famous for his friendship with the Pope, who often put him on display in Rome. During the Renaissance period, Medici became an important player in the papal court. Although the papacy frowned upon alchemy and especially on the Italian Renaissance, it was Medici who made the chemical secrets available to the rest of Europe. This period of time saw the greatest development in ch emistry since the birth of the Industrial Revolution. There are very few historians today who know that the basic methods of alchemy were already well-known to common knowledge by the time Medici published his first book, 'The Chemistry'. Until the introduction of chromatography, the most powerful and easily-accessible laboratory instrument of the day, the only way to separate pure elements was through trial and error. The discovery of new chemical techniques and the application of those methods to chemistry had been made possible by the example set by the Renaissance's great man, Medici.Medici saw the need for scientific validation in chemistry. His magnum opus, 'The Chemistry', identified and described the relationships between the elements and their potential reactions. This enabled him to use his discoveries to make the most important discoveries in chemistry and to gain commercial power.Medici's 'The Chemistry' was used as a textbook in all the major universities. From the point of view of early modern society, however, this book was more than just a textbook - it was a treasure trove of knowledge about chemistry's applications. The first element from the Medici 'The Chemistry' book was Uranium. This element has a symbol of U and a formula that contain only one atom of oxygen. The second element, known as Vanadium, is very similar in appearance to Uranium. Both of these elements are named after the two founder's of Chemistry, and they have been named after their respective founders' houses. This book was the beginning of a tradition of publicly-funded chemistry and a tradition that is still very popular today. This tradition was preserved in Medieval Europe, and in modern times, the chemistry faculty at many universities have a curriculum based on the book. This tradition, and the practical use of it, have not disappeared despite the widespread occurrence of the industrial revolution. With its history, the modern chemistry lab is undoubtedly better off becau se of its origins.

5 Educational Activities to do over Thanksgiving Break

5 Educational Activities to do over Thanksgiving Break Tips from an O.C. Tutor: 5 Educational Activities to do over Thanksgiving Break Tips from an O.C. Tutor: 5 Educational Activities to do over Thanksgiving Break Students need to have a rest from the rigors of academics during Thanksgiving break and also spend time with family. However, there are some fun and educational activities that younger students can enjoy with their whole family. In the spirit of family, many holiday activities will provide a fun experience where elementary school students can learn something new in a hands-on or outside of the classroom environment you can always ask your private Orange County academic tutor from TutorNerds for additional tips. 1. Arts and Crafts Make a traditional Thanksgiving craft project with all of the neighborhood children. Young kids can enjoy creating an art project such as making a Cornucopia, harvest picture, or anything related to the holiday. Each child, and their parents, can think about what they feel especially grateful for and include it as part of the craft, providing artistic development and a bonding experience (READ: 7 Tips For Studying While Traveling). 2. Writing Activity Young students can also complete a writing project to keep them successfully occupied while all of those cooking chores are being completed. Younger children can simply write about their ideal Thanksgiving, what they like about Thanksgiving, or what they are especially thankful for.  Parents who want to add a little bit more of an educational element can have their kids do some research about the first Thanksgiving. Students will learn about online research tools, biographical and nonfiction information, and the early years of our country. 3. Fun With Cooking Students who are old enough to participate in cooking can learn a lot about math and measuring if they help their family prepare a Thanksgiving meal. Fractions and measurements are used regularly in cooking and baking and can teach young students a lesson about why its important to learn such activities in school. When students understand the reason why theyre learning a particular topic, theyre more likely to make an effort and remember information to recall in the future. As an added bonus, they’ll have a delicious meal to eat at the end. 4. Join in the spirit of giving One great family activity is to spend an afternoon volunteering within the community. Young kids will get to learn about the importance of volunteerism and community service, learn about a specific charity or organization that can use their help, and enjoy the spirit of giving with family and friends. Thanksgiving is a great time to start a community service commitment, and may become the start of   regular volunteerism in the young student’s life. 5. Do a turkey trot Because children have to sit in a classroom most of the day, its important that they get regular exercise so they can stay healthy and maintain focus on their educational commitments. Students who exercise regularly are more likely to be able to endure long periods of sitting and concentration, and ultimately get better grades. Almost every city has a Thanksgiving day Turkey Trot, usually a 3 mile or 1 mile run that students can do with their families. Not only will the entire family be together but kids will get a chance to learn that exercise can be fun and social. Children who enjoy the turkey trot might choose to participate in a youth running program or sports program on a regular basis. Although its important for children to have plenty of time to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with extended family during the Thanksgiving holiday, it doesnt hurt to sneak in a little bit of education here and there. Although classroom studies are very important, there are plenty of extracurricular activities that will help children have a well-rounded overall education (READ: 10 Study Tips From an Irvine History Teacher). Polysaccharides are classified as homopolysaccharides and heteropolysaccharides. omopolysaccharides are composed of normal monosaccharide molecules of a single type. Heteropolysaccharides are composed of modified monosaccharide molecules of different type. Food storage polysaccharides: Those polysaccharides which are used as reserve food materials. At the time of need food storage polysaccharides are hydrolyzed and the sugars are released which become readily available to the living cells for the production of energy and biosynthetic activities. Starch: It is a complex homopolysaccharide being formed of alpha glycoside chain and yields only glucose on hydrolysis. It is formed by the condensation of amylose and amylopectin. Glycogen: It Is also a complex homopolysaccharide and is the main carbohydrate storage material in animals especially in mammals and fungi. It is formed of molecules amylopectin but with more numerous side chains. It is a nonreducing substance and gives red colour with iodine. Structural polysaccharide: It takes part in the formation of structural frame work of the cell wall and skeleton of animals. The important structural polysaccharides are cellulose, chitin and lignin. Cellulose: It is a homopolysaccharide which is found in the call wall of plants and in the external coverings of all grains. It contains long chains of beta glycosides and may contain thousands of monosaccharide units in a single molecule. What is it Like to Attend Rollins College

What is it Like to Attend Rollins College Kori earned her bachelor's degree in business from Rollins College. She specializes in economics tutoring, Spanish tutoring, and a number of other subjects. Below, she shares her experience at Rollins College: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. Kori: Many students carpool with other students to campus daily. Rollins College also has a small bus that takes students to a few different locations, which is very convenient for those who dont have a car on campus. I always felt safe when on campus and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Kori:The professors, advisers, and TAs were amazing. They usually gave out their phone numbers so we could reach them easily, but they were always available through email as well. They could almost always plan time over the phone, Skype, or in person within three days of the first email sent to them to meet with students. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Kori:I didnt live in the dorms and preferred the space off-campus living provided, but Rollins has amazing dining and social activities. Campus has multiple cafes that have different snacks, pastries, and drinks. The dining hall offers different options daily, a soup and salad bar, coffee and tea machines, a sushi bar, and sandwiches. The Boathouse is a fresh deli where they sell wraps, sandwiches, and daily specials. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? Kori:While were a liberal arts school, Rollins College is also a heavily accredited business school with amazing professors. I studied business and loved my teachers, the opportunities provided to me, and the guest speakers we had. My professors did an excellent job showing us how to apply our learnings in the real world. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Kori:My freshman year I met people through many different events. I was a part of Greek life, but unfortunately withdrew during my senior year. It was an amazing experience, just one that I grew out of. Its very easy, regardless of if you join Greek life, to make friends on campus. How helpful are the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Kori:Excellent companies recruit on campus. The Career Center offers LinkedIn and resume building workshops, as well as private appointments to help students with their job search. How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Kori:The campus has many study places for students to take advantage of. The Olin Library has both group and private study areas, with each floor geared toward different types of study. Each residence hall has lounges for students to study in as well. Describe the surrounding town. Kori:Rollins College is in Winter Park, FL, about 10 minutes from downtown and two minutes from Park Avenue, which has lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Its a very nice area with museums, nightlife, and something for everyone. How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Kori:There are about 2,450 students at Rollins College. Once enrolled in major-related courses, the largest class I had was 20 students and the smallest I had was eight. I loved the small classes and the easy access to my teachers who would provide extra help whenever needed. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Kori:I took a listening class as an elective in the spring of 2016 and it was amazing. I learned so much during this course that stuck with me. The course taught us about listening, speaking, and how and when to form and comprehend things said by others.
